MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Brazilian surfactants producer Oxiteno has acquired specialty chemical assets in the city of Suzano, Sao Paulo, from US-based Cytec Industries, Oxiteno said on Friday.

Oxiteno will adapt the assets for its line of esters and co-surfactants, with production expected to increase by 13,000 tonnes/year, the company said.

“The acquisition will provide Oxiteno with greater capacity and flexibility to keep pace with the demand and requirements of the major markets in which it operates, particularly home and personal care, agrochemicals and coatings,” said the company.

Production is scheduled to start in the final quarter of 2012, the company added.

Earlier this month, Oxiteno reported a first–quarter earnings drop of 14% year on year, pointing to a less favourable sales mix and a fall in international prices for glycols.

Oxiteno recently acquired a $15m (€12m) US specialty chemical facility in Pasadena, Texas, the company confirmed.

It is the only Brazilian producer of ethylene oxide (EO), ethylene glycol (EG), ethanolamines, glycol ethers and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK).

Oxiteno is a subsidiary of Ultrapar.
