Japan’s JX Nippon Oil to shut Sendai benzene unit, restart Chita, Oita

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japanese aromatics major JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp will take offline its Sendai-based benzene unit on 10 June, while it plans to restart its facilities in Chita and Oita in same month following turnarounds, a company source said on Thursday.

The company plans to shut production at its 90,000 tonne/year benzene unit in Sendai from 10 June, and plans to restart on 5 July, the source added.

Meanwhile, the producer, which took offline its 200,000 tonne/year benzene facility in Chita from 19 May, is expected to resume production from the end of June, the source said.

JX Nippon Oil will also restart production at its 120,000 tonne/year benzene facility in Oita on 15 June after taking the unit offline from 15 May for a turnaround, he added.

JX Nippon Oil is the largest producer of benzene in Japan.
