SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Brunei Methanol Co (BMC) is running its 850,000 tonne/year methanol plant at Sungai Liang Industrial Park at high rates after its restart on 17 May, a company source said on Friday.

The plant was shut on 14-17 May because of a minor mechanical issue, the source said.

The source did not reveal the precise operating rate of the plant.

BMC is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC), ITOCHU and Petroleum Brunei. MGC holds a 50% stake in the company, with the remaining 50% of shares being held equally by ITOCHU and Petroleum Brunei.

Methanol is used in the manufacture of formaldehyde, methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), methyl chlorides, methyl methacrylate (MMA) and acetic acid.
