US stock market falls over 2% on weak employment data

HOUSTON (ICIS)--The US Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 2.2% on Friday following a disappointing jobs report.

The US stock market ended the day at 12,118.57, down 274.88 points, erasing all the gains made for the year.

The US Department of Labor revealed on Friday that there were only 69,000 jobs added in May.

North American chemical stocks fared even worse, with the Dow Jones US Chemicals Index falling 3.43% to 335.79.

Specialty chemicals firms Chemtura and caustic soda producer Westlake all fell over 8%, while major producer Huntsman dropped 7.5%.

Among the majors, DuPont fell by 2.18% and Dow Chemical fell 2.25%.

Fertilizer producer PotashCorp dropped by 5.06%, and industrial gases major Praxair fell by 2.57%.
