SINGAPORE (ICIS)--INEOS Phenol and Sinopec’s Yangzi Petrochemical plan to build a 650,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone project in Nanjing, east China, a source from Sinopec said on Monday.

The project, which will have the capacity to produce 400,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 250,000 tonnes/year of acetone, got construction approval on 31 May in Nanjing, the source added.

Yangzi Petrochemical will supply feedstock propylene and benzene and INEOS Phenol will supply the technology for the project, which will be located in Nanjing Chemical Industry Park, according to the source.

“Around 70% of the products will be supplied to the local market and other 30% to neighbouring markets in east China,” said the source.

Construction details were not immediately available.
