KUALA LUMPUR (ICIS)--?xml:namespace>China’s demand of natural gas will grow rapidly to reach 350bn cubic metres by 2020 and 550bn cbm by 2030, Zhou Jiping, vice president of the country’s biggest oil and gas producer PetroChina said on Thursday.
The country will build more liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals and gas pipelines to facilitate distributions of the gas, Zhou said at the 25th World Gas Conference (WGC2012).
“Natural gas will make up 5% of China’s total energy use in 2012, up from 2.4% in 2000,”he said.
National gas consumption is also increasing around the world.
“Europe, North America and Asia Pacific are the biggest consumption centres of natural gas in the world, with a share of 34%, 28% and 20% respectively,” he said.
China’s natural gas consumption has shifted from a supply-driven to demand-driven pattern, he added.
