SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s SK Energy plans to carry out furnace maintenance at its 690,000 tonne/year No 2 naphtha cracker at Ulsan in June and July, a company source said on Friday.

The cracker’s operating rate will be reduced to around 90% capacity from the current 100% during a 10-day period in the second half of June, the source said, adding that the dates have yet to be finalised.

Similarly, the producer will adjust the cracker operating rate lower to 90% for the same duration in July to carry out the furnace maintenance, he said.

SK Energy also runs a smaller 190,000 tonne/year No 1 naphtha cracker at the same site that is operating at 70% capacity this month after the company reduced the production rate in the second half of May due to squeezed margins.
