HOUSTON (ICIS)--US refiner Motiva Enterprises is undergoing maintenance at its Port Arthur refinery in Texas, a company spokesperson said on Friday.

The refinery had corrosion in the plant’s fuel gas system, which was discovered during an audit that is part of the facility’s start-up expansion procedures, the company said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

Motiva completed a five-year project to more than double the capacity of its Port Arthur refinery to 600,000 bbl/day on 1 June, and expects it to be running at full rates by the end of June.

According to the filing, refinery workers will perform  repairs and will temporarily place in service three gas compressors, which will help maintain the fuel gas system during the maintenance.

Company spokesperson Kayla Macke said the company could not comment further on the operational status of individual units or information on supply.

Motiva is a joint venture by Saudi Aramco and Shell.
