SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s production capacity of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) is predicted to rise by 1.35m tonnes/year and 1.09m tonnes/year respectively by the end of 2012 following expansions and start-ups, according to company sources on Monday.
Companies with PP and PE expansion plans include PetroChina’s Daqing Petrochemical, Daqing Refining & Chemicals and Fushun Petrochemical; Sinopec’s Luoyang Petrochemical; and Xuzhou Haitian Petrochemical.
In northeastern China, Daqing Refining & Chemicals plans to start up a 300,000 tonne/year PP unit at Daqing in Heilongjiang province in September or October, a company source said last week.
Daqing Refining & Chemicals’s total PP capacity will reach 600,000 tonnes/year following the expansion, the source added.
Fushun Petrochemical will delay the start-up of its 450,000 tonne/year PP plant at Fushun in Liaoning province, northeast China, to the end of this year, a company source said, without specifying the reason for the delay. The plant was originally scheduled to start up in September 2012, the source said.
The total capacity of Fushun Petrochemical’s PP production capacity will reach 540,000 tonnes/year following the start-up, the source added.
Luoyang Petrochemical plans to start up a 140,000 tonne/year PP unit at Luoyang in Henan province in October 2012 as scheduled, a company source said on 8 June. The company’s total PP capacity will increase to 220,000 tonnes/year after the start-up.
Xuzhou Haitian Petrochemical plans to start up its new 200,000 tonne/year PP plant at Xuzhou in Jiangsu province in September, a company source said on 7 June.
Meanwhile, China’s PE capacity will rise by 1.35m tonnes/year to 11.95m tonnes/year by the end of December 2012 from December 2011. Capacity expansions are mainly for linear low density PE (LLDPE) and high-density PE (HDPE).
Fushun Petrochemical has delayed the start-up of its 350,000 tonne/year HDPE and 450,000 tonne/year LLDPE plants at Fushun in Liaoning province to the end of 2012 from June 2012, a company source said, without specifying the reason for the delay.
Daqing Petrochemical will build two HDPE/LLDPE swing plants at Daqing in Heilongjiang province in August or September, said a company source. The plants will have capacities of 250,000 tonnes/year and 300,000 tonnes/year respectively, the source added.By: Rain Dong
