MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Momentive Performance Materials is upgrading its manufacturing facility in Brazil to enable production of urethane additive finished goods, the company said on Tuesday.

The upgrades will complement existing production facilities at the company’s Itatiba site and will be completed in the third quarter of 2012, the company said.

The Itatiba facility will now manufacture a number of finished goods including slab, moulded and rigid products, the company said.

“Our manufacturing capacity will increase and additional upgrade phases will occur as they are needed and in response to our growth in Latin America,” said Momentive director Tony Lanchak.

Improvements of laboratory and analytical testing equipment were also carried out at the Itatiba facility’s applications development centre, the company said.

The upgrades in Brazil are part of a global strategy focusing on broadening capacity in its urethane additives business to meet growing demand, the company said.

Urethane additive production upgrades have also been carried out in China, India and Belgium, the company said.

“Our global infrastructure for polyurethane additives has never been stronger,” said Lanchak.

Momentive Performance Materials is the sister company of Momentive Specialty Chemicals.
