MIAMI, Florida (ICIS)--US phthalic anhydride (PA) June contracts have decreased by 3 cents/lb, following the drop in the US orthoxylene (OX) May contract.

The June contract for molten-grade PA was assessed by ICIS at 84-91 cents/lb ($1,852-2,006/tonne, €1,485-1,605), while flake-grade was assessed at 85-92 cents/lb.

PA contracts typically reflect the previous month’s OX price, which was settled at 68 cents/lb in May, down by 3 cents/lb from April.

PA is a key intermediate in the production of plasticisers, which are used to make products such as flexible polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Major US PA producers include BASF, Koppers, and Stepan.
