MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Eastern China-based solvents maker Wuxi Baichuan Chemical Industrial this week increased the operating rate at its ethyl acetate (etac)/butyl acetate (butac) swing plant at Jiangyin in ?xml:namespace>
The company raised the plant’s operating rate to about 80% of capacity from roughly 50%, after clearing existing inventories in recent weeks, the source said.
Wuxi Baichuan is producing solely butac at the swing plant, which has a nameplate capacity of 200,000 tonnes/year.
Separately, the company is conducting test runs at its new 300,000 tonne/year etac/butac swing plant at
Wuxi Baichuan plans to produce 100,000 tonnes/year of etac and 200,000 tonnes/year of butac when the new plant begins commercial operation.
Butac, which is derived from acetic acid and n-butanol (NBA), is mainly used in the manufacturing of lacquers and coatings for the furniture, construction and automotive sectors.
