HOUSTON (ICIS)--A Texas methanol plant in Beaumont is in startup mode and should begin producing methanol on 28 June, sources close to the unit said on Wednesday.
The plant’s manager did not return a phone call immediately, but another source said the 750,000 tonne/year facility has already begun the startup process and would begin producing methanol before the end of June.
Methanol sources said in late May that the plant would begin production in June.
Mothballed in 2004, the plant is owned by Orascom Construction Industries (OCI), an international nitrogen fertilizer producer and engineering and construction company headquartered in Cairo, Egypt.
The Texas plant began producing ammonia in December 2011.
