China’s Xinjiang Changyuan to start up coal tar, methanol projects in 2015

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Xinjiang Changyuan Group plans to start up a 500,000 tonne/year coal tar plant and a 1m tonne/year methanol plant in 2015, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

The company started construction of the two projects on 20 June, and the pair are expected to cost yuan (CNY) 11bn ($1.73bn), the source said.

Construction of the two units is expected to be complete by the middle of 2015, and they are to start commercial operation in the second half of 2015, the source added.

Both of the projects are located in the Xinjiang autonomous region of northwest China.
