SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan's Formosa Plastics Corp (FPC) may restart its 240,000 tonne/year acrylonitrile (ACN) plant at Mailiao by next week after a power outage on 20 June shut down both its lines, a company source said on Friday.

“There is no damage to the facility and we are preparing to restart both the ACN lines in the next few days if everything goes smoothly,” the source added.

Both the ACN lines at the site, each with a capacity of 120,000 tonnes/year, were shut after a power outage on 20 June shut its crackers and downstream units at the Mailiao site.

The impact of the FPC’s unplanned outage on pricing is likely to be limited as the ACN produced by FPC is mainly for captive use at its downstream acrylic fibre (AF) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) plants, industry sources said.

ACN spot prices were at $1,700-1,800/tonne (€1,360-1,440/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) northeast (NE) Asia in the week ended 15 June, according to ICIS.
