US Westlake shuts down Louisiana cracker to repair steam leak

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Westlake Chemical has shut down its Petro 1 Lake Charles cracker in Louisiana to repair a steam leak and to complete other repairs in the unit, the US-based company said on Friday.

The 544,000 tonne/year cracker will be out of service until approximately the end of the month, a company spokesperson said.

Westlake has a second cracker in Lake Charles, Petro 2, with 699,000 tonnes/year of ethylene capacity.

That unit was off line in late May for about 10 days because of a compressor trip.
