HOUSTON (ICIS)--Jacobs has won a contract for work on a planned 35,000 tonne/year ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) project in Saudi Arabia, the US-based petrochemicals engineering firm said on Tuesday.

Jacob’s said that under the contract from SABIC affiliate Saudi Kayan Petrochemical, it will develop a process design package and a front end engineering design package for the project at Al-Jubail.

Financial terms and timelines for completion and start-up were not disclosed.

UHMWPE is used in industrial applications, including batteries and industrial fibres.

The project will source its ethylene from an existing Saudi Kayan olefins facility. It will run on SABIC technology.
