HOUSTON (ICIS)--Nyrstar’s suffered no plant damage and production was not affected by an accident at its zinc smelter in Clarksville, Tennessee, the Switzerland-based mining and metals firm said on Wednesday.

The accident, on Monday, injured two employees at one of the site's electric motor control centres, Nyrstar said. The workers were hospitalised. Their injuries are not life-threatening and both are in stable condition.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the incident, the company said in a statement to ICIS, made available on Wednesday.

“There was no damage to the plant as a result of this incident and no impact on production,” Nyrstar added.

According to the company, the Clarksville smelter is the only primary zinc producer in the US. The plant produced 110,000 tonnes of zinc in 2011.
