SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea's SK Lubricants and Spain's Repsol are expected to bring on line a 13,300 bbl/day Group III base oil plant at Cartagena in Spain in the second half of 2014, an executive from SK Lubricants said on Thursday.

The joint venture unit will be located adjacent to Repsol's refinery, which will supply feedstock vacuum gasoil from its hydrocracker, according to Steve Kim, manager of base oil business development at SK Lubricants.

Kim was speaking at the 6th ICIS Base Oil & Lubricants conference held in Singapore on 27–28 June.

"The output from this plant will mainly be supplied to the European market, where the demand for Group III base oils is expected to grow," Kim said.

The collaboration was established in April this year as SKSOL, which is 70% owned by SK Lubricants and 30% owned by Repsol.

The construction of the plant will start in July this year and upon its start-up, the plant will be the largest Group III base oil plant in Europe, according to Kim.
