US ethylene output in May falls 4% year on year - consultant

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in May totalled 4.107bn lb (1.86m tonnes), a nearly 4% drop from 4.274bn lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Thursday.

Ethylene output in May fell 0.1% by volume compared with 4.111bn lb in April, but dropped by 3.3% if production is measured on a daily rate, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.

US crackers operated at 83.6% of capacity in May. The figure is down from a revised 86.5% in April and 87.1 % in May 2011, the report showed.
