US propylene output in May falls 15% year on year - consultant

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US propylene production in May totalled 795m lb (360,606 tonnes), a 15% drop from 939m lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Thursday.

Propylene output in May fell by 1.6% by volume compared with 808m lb in April, but dropped by 4.8% if production is measured on a daily rate, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.

US crackers operated at 83.6% of capacity in May. The figure is down from a revised 86.5% in April and 87.1 % in May 2011, the report showed.
