SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will increase the operating rate of its 20,000 tonne/year ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) unit to full capacity by 4 July after restarting the plant on 30 June, a source close to the company said on Monday.

CNPC shut the unit on 28 May for maintenance that took 33 days, according to the source.

EPDM supply in China may increase, but the supply of EPDM in the country was ample in July, market sources said.

The prices of CNPC’s EPDM products were at yuan (CNY) 35,800/tonne ($5,629/tonne) on 2 July, down by CNY2,900/tonne from 28 May, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

CNPC is the only EPDM producer in China.
