SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Fushun Chenglong Petrochemical plans to ramp up the operating rate at its 450,000 tonne/year paraffin wax plant at Fushun in Liaoning province to 100% of capacity by the beginning of October, said a source close to the company on Wednesday.

The plant was started up earlier this week, the source said without giving a specific date. Details on the current operating rate were not available.

The source added that the company’s paraffin wax will include fully and semi-refined wax with melting points of 52-62°C.

“Fushun Chenglong’s plant will be the largest single site for paraffin wax production in the world in terms of production capacity by October,” the source said.

The start-up is expected to weigh on paraffin wax prices further as the paraffin wax supply in China will increase significantly, given Fushun Chenglong’s capacity, while demand from end-users, such as the candle-making industry, continues to be sluggish in Asia, according to Chinese market participants.
