MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Zhenjiang LCY General Chemical Co shut its 24,000 tonne/year methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) plant at Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province over the weekend of 7-8 July because of local power restrictions, market sources said on Tuesday.

Zhenjiang LCY is a unit of Taiwan’s LCY Group, which also operates at 20,000 tonne/year MIBK plant at Linyuan in Taiwan.

It is unclear when the plant can be restarted, because power restrictions are being enforced throughout the month of July, the sources added.

MIBK, which is derived from acetone, is used as a solvent for industrial paints and thinners, and to produce rubber chemicals.

Other MIBK makers in China include Ningbo Zhenyang, Taizhou Petrochemical and Jilin Petrochemical.
