LONDON (ICIS)--Japan’s domestic shipments of polystyrene paper (PSP), or foamed polystyrene sheets, increased by 4.4% month on month to 7,750 tonnes in June, official data by an industry association showed on Tuesday.

This reflected an increase in demand for roll trays, based on the data from the Japan Foamed Polystyrene Sheet Industry Association (JASFA).

On a year-on-year comparison, the country’s domestic shipments of PSP fell by 4.1% in June, the statistics showed.

Among the total, domestic shipments of PSP for roll trays were up by 13% month on month to 3,690 tonnes in June, but fell by 8.9% year on year, according to the association.

The country shipped 2,130 tonnes of laminated PS bowls in June, a 4.5% decrease from May and a 7.4% decrease from June 2011, the data showed.

PSP is primarily used for packaging food products such as fresh seafood and meat, as well as bowls for instant noodles.
