CAMPINAS, Brazil (ICIS)--Brazil-based Petrobras signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding with the state of Rio Grande do Norte to convert a pilot biodiesel plant to commercial production, the company said on Tuesday.
Under the deal, the pilot plant would produce 20m of litres/year of biodiesel by the first half of 2013, Petrobras said.
Investments to convert the pilot plant should be reais (R) 5.1m ($2.5m, €2.0m), the company said.
The plant is in the city of Guamare.
When completed , the unit could supply nearly all Rio Grande do Norte's biodiesel demand, which is around 22m litres/year, Petrobras said.
