SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s JX Nippon Oil & Energy is to restart its 400,000 tonne/year Chita-based PX unit over the weekend of 14-15 July after a near two-week delay, a company source said on Wednesday.

“The restart of China plant was delayed for two weeks,” the source said but did not give any details.

The Chita PX unit was shut in mid-May for maintenance and was originally scheduled to restart on 1 July.

The overall current PX production rate of JX Nippon Oil & Energy, which has several other PX plants, is close to 90%, the source added.

The company usually sells 10 cargoes in the spot on a monthly basis and has aalready sold two or three slots for August delivery but the source could not say how much spot availability will be affected by the longer-than-expected shutdown of Chiba unit.
