Europe June chlorine output down 5.2%, caustic soda stocks fall 7.2%

LONDON (ICIS)--Average European daily chlorine production in June decreased by 5.2% from May, while inventories of co-product caustic soda decreased by 7.2% in the same period, according to industry body Euro Chlor on Wednesday.

Average daily production of chlorine for the region comprising the EU27, Norway and Switzerland, stood at 25,359 tonnes in June, down from 26,742 tonnes in May. Caustic soda stocks were at 256,086 tonnes, down from 275,970 tonnes in the previous month.

Euro Chlor's year-on-year figures showed that average daily chlorine production was 11.5% lower than in June 2011, while caustic soda stocks were 10,179 tonnes below the June 2011 level of 266,265 tonnes.

Chlorine capacity utilisation in June stood at 73.5%, down from 77.5% in the previous month, and from 83.4% in June 2011.
