US May ammonia imports rise 1% month on month

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ammonia imports in May were up by about 1% from April, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.

US ammonia imports rose to 507,276 tonnes in May from 500,934 tonnes in April.

Imports rose in May because of higher imports from Russia and Venezuela.

May imports fell from 591,836 tonnes in the same month of 2011.

Trinidad and Tobago at 302,200 tonnes was the major source of US ammonia imports, followed by Canada at 95,359 tonnes, Russia at 45,770 tonnes and Venezuela at 43,304 tonnes.

Other sources of imports included Indonesia, Ukraine and South Korea.
