US May urea imports rise 29% year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US urea imports in May were up by 29% from the same month a year earlier, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday.

US urea imports rose to 509,097 tonnes in May from 396,091 tonnes in May 2011.

Imports rose in May mainly because of strong demand from the agricultural sector.

May imports decreased from 824,931 tonnes in April.

Canada at 92,219 tonnes was the major source of US urea imports, followed by Oman at 83,324 tonnes and Russia at 76,371 tonnes.

Other sources included Egypt, Indonesia, Qatar, Romania, Trinidad & Tobago, Croatia and China.
