SINGAPORE (ICIS)--GS Caltex, South Korea’s second largest refiner, is targeting to mechanically complete its vacuum gas oil (VGO) fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCC) in February 2013, a source close to the company said on Thursday.

The new FCC unit at Yeosu is expected to produce around 250,000 tonnes/year of propylene, some of which could be exported, said the source who did not provide details.

GS Caltex currently operates a residual FCC at the same site, which is able to produce around 220,000 tonnes/year of propylene.

The bulk of the propylene is fed to a derivative 180,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant while the surplus is exported on a term basis to countries such as China.
