SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan's Formosa Plastics Corp (FPC) will cut its acrylonitrile (ACN) production output in Mailiao to 70% of capacity in late July or early August to carry out maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

“We will operate at a reduced rate of 70% of capacity for five or six days to carry out regular equipment maintenance,” the source said.

The company is currently running at 80% of its capacity.

The company has two ACN lines with a combined capacity of 240,000 tonnes/year.  The plants, each with a 120,000 tonne/year capacity, are located at Mailiao in Taiwan.

The ACN produced by FPC is mainly for captive use at its downstream acrylic fibre (AF) and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) plants, industry sources said.

ACN spot prices were at $1,600-1,650/tonne (€1,312-1,353/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) northeast (NE) Asia in the week ended 6 July, according to ICIS.
