SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s BP Zhuhai restarted its 1.1m tonne/year No 2 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Guangdong province on 12 July after shutting it at the end of June for scheduled maintenance, a source close to the company said on Friday.

Prior to the shutdown, the plant was operated at a reduced rate because of a mechanical issue, the source said.

The exact operating rate of the plant was not disclosed.

The company intends to increase the plant’s run rate to full capacity shortly after the restart, the source added.

The unit underwent debottlenecking works at the end of 2011 and the plant’s capacity was increased by 200,000 tonnes/year at the time.

BP Zhuhai is a joint venture between BP and China’s Zhuhai Port Co.
