Japan PS production decreases by 18% in June

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of polystyrene (PS) decreased by 18% in June from the previous month to 42,935 tonnes, official data from an industry association showed on Tuesday.

This was a 30% decline from the same time a year earlier, according to the Japan Styrene Industry Association (JSIA).

The country’s internal demand for PS was 49,821 tonnes in June, unchanged from May, but a decrease of 13% from June 2011, the data showed.

Japan’s exports of PS rose by 24% month on month to 1,949 tonnes in June, an increase of 1% year on year, the statistics showed.
