Correction: In the ICIS news story headlined " Japan’s JX Nippon PX supply hit by Mizushima refinery shutdown" dated 18 July 2012, please read in the fifth paragraph ... 110,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 300,000 tonnes/year of isomer grade xylene... instead of …100,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 200,000 tonnes/year of isomer grade xylene... A corrected story follows.

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--JX Nippon Oil & Energy will reduce its paraxylene (PX) output because of insufficient feedstock supply following the shutdown of its Mizushima B refinery, a source familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

“The reformer was shut today,” the source said.

JX Nippon Oil is shutting the Mizushima B refinery in Okayama prefecture for safety checks, the Japanese producer said last week.

“PX production in [the] Chita plant will be affected due to insufficient feedstock mixed xylene (MX) supply and the overall [PX] output will be reduced by 15-20%,” the source said, adding that contractual volumes will not be disrupted.

The benzene and mixed xylene units at the Mizushima B refinery produces 110,000 tonnes/year of benzene and 300,000 tonnes/year of isomer grade xylene.

The company produces 250,000 tonnes/year of mixed xylene and 400,000 tonnes/year of PX at the Chita-based plant.
