Japan's ABS resin shipments up 2% on automotive, housing demand

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s domestic shipments of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) resin rose by 2% month on month to 20,496 tonnes in June, reflecting increased demand from the automobile and housing sectors, official data from an industry association showed on Thursday.

The country’s June domestic shipments of ABS resin, however, fell by 2% year on year, according to the Nihon ABS Jushi Kogyokai (Japan ABS resin industry association).

Total domestic shipments for use in automobiles increased by 6% to 8,149 tonnes in June from May, and rose by 41% year on year, the data showed.

Domestic shipments of ABS resin for housing construction were up by 4% to 1,845 tonnes in June from the previous month, but down by 3% from the same time a year earlier, according to the association.

Japan’s exports of ABS resin declined by 17% month on month to 10,794 tonnes in June, but up by 1% year on year, based on the statistics.
