SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiaxing Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Tongkun Group, has rescheduled the start-up of its new 1.5m tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Jiaxing in Zhejiang province to the first half of August, a company source said on Thursday.

The company postponed the start-up schedule twice from April because of slower delivery of machinery parts, the source said.

“The machinery parts have reached our plant and we are on track to start up the unit soon,” he added.

The new PTA output is aimed for captive use, for Tongkun Group’s 1.6m tonne/year polyester yarn plants at Tongxiang in Zhejiang province, the source said.

PTA is the primary raw material in polyester production.

Tongkun Group is expanding its polyester capacity and plans to add two 400,000 tonne/year polyester yarn units at Huzhou in Zhejiang province at the end of this year or by early next year, the source said.

This will bring up Tongkun Group’s total polyester capacity to 2.4m tonnes/year, the third Chinese polyester producer with more than 2m tonnes/year polyester capacity, after Sanfangxiang Group and Hengyi Group.
