HOUSTON (ICIS)--Huntsman experienced flaring at its Port Neches cracker in Texas, the company said on Thursday.

Hunstman said maintenance work on a leaking exchanger caused the flaring.

An attempt was made to bypass the exchanger, but an unexpected condition in a cooling tower resulted in flaring on Wednesday, the company said in a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

The cracker was running at reduced rates, but was expected to return to normal production by Friday night, a company spokesperson said.

Huntsman has 193,000 tonnes/year of ethylene capacity in Port Neches.
