SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry Group restarted its 500,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant at Yinchuan city on Friday after completing more than a month of maintenance at the unit, a company source said.

The plant located at Ningxia Autonomous Region – was shut on 15 June, the source said.

The unit has two lines – a 200,000 tonne/year unit and a 300,000 tonne/year unit – that mainly produce PP yarn. The shutdown caused some tightness in domestic supply, fuelling a spike in PP yarn prices.

PP yarn prices were assessed at yuan (CNY) 10,900-11,100/tonne ($1,711-1,743/tonne) ex-tank in eastern China on 19 July, up by CNY400/tonne from 15 June, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
