SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao Co plans to shut down its 120,000 tonne/year butadiene rubber (BR) plant in October for about one month, industry sources said on Monday.

“The BR plant will be shutdown because the storage tanks of feedstock butadiene need safety checks in October,” the source said.

No other details were immediately available.

Sinopec Shanghai Gaoqiao is a major BR producer in east China and the shutdown will tighten supply.

However, market prices may not rise because downstream demand is very weak.
