SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Beijing-based Yanshan Petrochemical has not been affected by the deadly flooding on 21 July in the Chinese capital, parent company Sinopec said in a newsletter on Monday.

The downpour, which was the heaviest for Beijing in 61 years, has killed 37 people and caused an economic loss of yuan (CNY)10bn ($1.6bn), according to a release from Beijing flood control department.

The city’s sewage and draining systems were too weak to withstand the heavy rain that lasted 16 hours with an average of nearly 170mm in volume, media reports said.

Yanshan Petrochemical operates a 220,000 bbl/day refinery, an 800,000 tonne/year cracker and various derivatives plants at Fangshan District in Beijing.
