Japan's vinyl acetate monomer production increases 5% in June

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) in June rose 5% year on year to 47,892 tonnes, reflecting higher demand for ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), official industry statistics showed on Wednesday.

Domestic shipments of VAM for the production of EVA increased 39% to 8,574 tonnes in June from the same month a year before, according to data from the Sakubi Poval Kogyokai (VAM PVOH Industry Association). 

Exports of VAM increased 83% year on year to 950 tonnes, the data showed.

The country’s production of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH), meanwhile, rose 6% to 19,983 tonnes in June from the year-ago period, according to the association.

Domestic shipments of PVOH for vinylon fibres decreased 17% year on year to 5,649 tonnes in June, while shipments for adhesives increased 2% to 2,041 tonnes.

Exports of PVOH rose 11% year on year to 6,959 tonnes in June, the data showed.
