HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethylene production in June totalled 4.138bn lb (1.88m tonnes), dropping by 4.6% from 4.339bn lb produced in the same month in 2011, consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy said on Wednesday.

Ethylene output in June fell 2.5% by volume compared with 4.242bn lb in May, but rose by 0.8% if production is measured on a daily rate, the group said in its monthly Hodson report.

The increase in the daily rate figure was in line with higher cracker operating rates last month, the consulting firm said.

US crackers operated at 87.1% of capacity in June, up from a revised 86.4% in May, but down from 91.4% in June 2011, the report showed.
