SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Linde Group posted a 4.4% year-on-year increase in its first-half 2012 net profit to €591m ($720m), backed by a 5.9% rise in revenue, the German industrial gases firm said on Friday.

Revenue for January-June 2102 stood at €7.17bn, with operating profit posting a 6.2% year-on-year increase to €1.66bn, the company said in a statement.

"Our global footprint and well-balanced spread across different sectors enable us to compensate for faltering demand in some markets or the weakness of certain currencies," Linde CEO Wolfgang Reitzle said in the statement.

The company reiterated its expectation of achieving higher revenue and operating profit this year compared with 2011, Reitzle said.

In 2013, Linde said it expects to generate an operating profit of at least €4bn, contingent with the completion of its planned acquisition of US homecare company Lincare.
