SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Xin Jiang Blue Ridge Tunhe Polyester is running its 60,000 tonne/year natural-grade polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) plant in Xinjiang province at 80% capacity, after restarting it on July 17, a company source said on Tuesday.

The unit was shut on 15 May because of high inventory levels as a result of slow sales, the source added.

The shutdown had a limited impact on the domestic China market because of weak demand, market players said.

Chinese PBT cargoes were transacted at yuan (CNY) 14,500-14,800/tonne ($2273-2320/tonne) ex-tank on 27 July, stable from the prices a week earlier, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

Meanwhile, some market participants expect the demand to pick up from late August because of the typical manufacturing peak season that starts in September to meet export orders ahead of  the year-end holidays in the US and Europe.
