HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical has started producing polyolefin encapsulant films at a plant in Map Ta Phut, Thailand, the US-based chemicals major said on Wednesday.

The plant will help meet strong demand for Dow’s ENGLIGHT encapsulant films in the Asia-Pacific region, the company said. The films are used in photovoltaic solar panels.

Dow said the plant at Map Ta Phut allows it to immediately double global capacity for the product. The company did not disclose the plant’s capacities in terms of tonnes or pounds per year, and it did not say how much money it invested in the project.

Dow already produces ENLIGHT films in Findlay, Ohio, and it is building a manufacturing site for the films in Schkopau, Germany.

Thailand is home to Dow’s largest manufacturing operations in the Asia-Pacific region. Dow employs a staff of almost 1,000 people in the country. The Thai films plant employs a staff of 35.
