EU, eurozone chems producer prices down by 1.2% in June – Eurostat

LONDON (ICIS)--The EU chemicals producer price index fell by 1.2% in June from May, according to estimated Eurostat figures released on Thursday.

The index was also down by 1.2% month on month in the 17-member eurozone, the statistics agency added.

Compared with the same month in 2011, chemicals producer prices in June were 1.6% higher in the 27-member EU and up by 1.7% in the eurozone.

Total industrial producer prices in June were down by 0.8% in the EU and 0.5% in the eurozone compared with the month before, the Eurostat data showed.

“Prices fell in almost all member states for which data are available, except Cyprus (+0.4%), Latvia (+0.3%) and Malta and Slovenia, where prices remained stable. The largest decreases in the total index were recorded in the United Kingdom (-1.9%), Greece (-1.8%), Denmark (-1.3%) and the Netherlands (-1.2%),” Eurostat said.

Year on year, industrial producer prices in June rose by 1.6% in the EU and by 1.8% in the eurozone.

“Among the member states for which data are available, the largest increases in the total index were observed in Cyprus (+8.8%), Hungary (+6.9%) and Lithuania (+4.9%), and the smallest in the United Kingdom (+0.1%), Austria (+0.2%) and Malta (+0.6%). Decreases were recorded in Sweden (-0.4%) and Denmark (-0.1%),” the agency added.
