A corrected story follows.
HOUSTON (ICIS)--US styrene production in the second quarter was up year-on-year, while inventories declined compared with the same time a year ago, according to data released by the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) on Thursday.
Second-quarter styrene production was at 2.3bn lb (1.0m tonnes), up from 2.1bn lb at the same time in 2011.
Second-quarter 2012 production was also slightly higher compared with 2.3bn lb the previous quarter.
Meanwhile, second quarter styrene inventories were at 467m lb, down by 33m or 6.7% from 500m lb in the second quarter of 2011.
Second-quarter 2012 stockpiles were also down from 574m lb in the previous quarter.
Major US styrene producers include Americas Styrenics, Styrolution, LyondellBasell, Total and Westlake Chemical – all of which contributed production figures included in the AFPM survey.
