SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) is running its 400,000 tonne/year I-4 No 2 ethane cracker at Map Ta Phut at reduced rates of below 90% capacity following issues at the gas separation unit on 31 July, a company source said on Friday.

The official could not ascertain the actual level of operating rate and for how long it will continue but added that the I-4 No 2 ethane cracker was operating at 90-95% capacity in July.

The cracker was taken off line on 29 June for repairs.  It was restarted earlier than expected on 6 July because the technical problems had been resolved, the source said.

The cracker was initially expected to be shut for around two weeks.

Separately, PTTGC’s 515,000 tonne/year mixed-feed I-4 No 1 cracker at the same site is now running normally at 85% capacity, the source added.
