MELBOURNE (ICIS)--China’s Zhenjiang LCY General Chemical Co restarted its 24,000 tonne/year methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) plant at Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province over the weekend of 4-5 August, market sources said on Monday.

The plant is running at about 60-70% of capacity following the restart and should achieve full operating rate by the middle of this week, the sources added.

The plant was shut over the weekend of 7-8 July because of local power restrictions.

Zhenjiang LCY is a unit of Taiwan’s LCY Group, which also operates at 20,000 tonne/year MIBK plant at Linyuan in Taiwan.

MIBK, which is derived from acetone, is used as a solvent for industrial paints and thinners, and to produce rubber chemicals.

Other MIBK makers in China include Ningbo Zhenyang, Taizhou Petrochemical and Jilin Petrochemical.
